Sooner or later you’ll need this one. Maybe you’re catching up with an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time or maybe you’re going on a date. It doesn’t matter what your reason is, this phrase is something you’ll want to have in your Spanish toolbox.
The first thing you need to know is the verb excitar is a false friend and will make you look like a perv and leave you very, very embarrassed. You see, excitar means to arouse and in this case not the type of excitement we’re looking for.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, there are two ways to say I’m excited to see you in Spanish.
Estoy emocionada de verte
Estoy emocionada por verte
The only difference between the two are those annoying little prepositions de and por, but don’t let those scare you. Let’s take a look at the difference between the two.
Estoy emocionada por verte
This is what you should use before you’re face to face with the person. When you’re talking on the phone or chatting about how great it’s going to be to finally see each other in person.
Estoy emocionada de verte
This is the one you want when you come face to face with that person. For example they just got off the plane and you’re giving them an abrazo fuerte (big hug).
By the way, I almost left out one small detail. Ladies should use emocionada while men need to use emocionado.
You could also use the word ansiosa or ansioso instead of emocionado. Ansioso officially translates to anxious, but in the end the translation is the same.
There you have it, pan comido (easy) right?
