My family and I started classes with Rodney in the summer of 2021. We planned to visit several spanish speaking countries in the next few years and although I had taken spanish in college it had been over 20 years and I needed a refresher. My wife and son had never taken spanish, so everything was new. We all found the classes extrememly helpful. For me it was the refresher that I needed to wake up some of the things that I had forgotten. Because of the easy conversational approach that Rodney uses I interact with learners on different levels and learn new things that weren’t covered in the text book. Rodney’s knowledge helped fill in some gaps from the extremely mundane like how to say “I am hot or cold” to many culturally different aspects like the different ways to ask for a drinking straw, and much more. And I feel more confident in communicating with locals as we travel around different parts of the globe.
The most exciting part for me however was watching the growth of my wife and son, who up to that point hadn’t had any language learning. I was able to see them begin to put it together enough to be able to have simple conversations with locals, order food and ask for directions. While we all still have a ways to go, I feel that Rodney’s course has been a great experience.
